Iraq War Casualties Knowledge Base
Why don't we hear the daily news reports on the Iraq war casualties anymore? It was always 4200 or the new level of 4300 , killed in the war . New record number set of ect ect . Is the war no longer an issue ? It was always a front page event if the number increased by 2 or 3 . Why don't we hear about casualties in Afghanistan ? The numbers are now so low ? The number is more than 4300 and growing .
Iraq war or Afghan war the casualties are the same. How is this "Obama change"? Obama- Jan 2009- On "my first day in office, I would give the military a new mission: ending this war". See the attached. In 2008 there were 307 Americans killed in the Mideast. Aug 2009 there are 295 Americans killed YTD. How is this better? Iraq war causing unreasonable unnecessary casualties? Now that Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld are not running the war, I have one question from these people; Are they willing to go to Iraq and participate side by side with our troops (whom are being forced to perform horrifying and terrible acts against other human beings which has absolutely nothing to do with securing USA) for just 1 day? If "NO", Why not? What are they afraid of or have excuse about?
Aren't Iraq war casualties light compared to previous wars? Iraq War- (4 years now?) 4185 US service members killed (RIP). Battle of Stones River- (1862) 12,906 Union soldiers killed, in one day. Battle of Iwo Jima- (February 19, 1945–March 26, 1945) 6,821 americans died in a month. Those are just some examples Some of you are bound to answer, why don't you grow some balls and join the military? (it's happened before) My answer is, I'm not old enough yet but planning on it. For the Battle of Stones River it was Union casualties only not counting Confederates.
Is The War In Iraq Worth The Tradeoff In Death & Casualties? The dead an wounded Americans in Iraq. "3,500 troops killed in Iraq. Depending on how you count them, they (maimed)number between 35,000 and 53,000." Did you know that deaths of Westerners by terrorism (outside of the Middle East) since 9/11, almost 6 years, totals 1,708? This figure included Madrid London Bali and other bombings. Along with all the other costs, loss of freedom and liberties, 10s or hundreds of thousands of Muslim civilians killed, maimed orphaned displaced etc..trillion$ in war costs...the 38,500-56,000 Iraq casualties yahoo reported today...with no end in sight.. is it really worth it? And there weren't even any terrorists in Iraq to begin with.
Iranian casualties during the Iran-Iraq War? I need to know how many Iranians were killed or wounded during the 1980-1988 Iraq-Iran war. I can't find any reliable sources and don't have any books on the conflict, so I was wondering if anyone out there has a good source on the number of Iranian casualties (the more specific the better, please clearify if its killed or wounded or both ). So just give me the number of Iranians killed +the the source you got the info from (Book+author+pg number; newspaper art+author+date) NO WIKIPEDIA
Rate of casualties in the Iraq War expressed in Soldier-Years? Incidence should be reported using events per 100,000 Soldier-Years as the denominator. Soldier-Years is a measure of person-time that accounts for both the number of Soldiers and the length of time each Soldier is at risk for a safety event, be it casualty, wounded, or another classification. Each Soldier contributes only as much person-time (Soldier-Years) to the population at risk for a safety event as he or she is actually at risk for that event. For example, if a Soldier leaves after six months, he/she is at risk only during the six-month period he/she is present and contributes only half a Soldier-Year. If a Soldier leaves after a year, he/she contributes one full Soldier-Year. Incidence per 100,000 Soldier-Years allows data to be compared in age-, rank-, region-, and country-specific analysis. They already do so for medical treatments http://amsa.army.mil/1msmr/1997/v03_n09.pdf but I can not find any statistics for casualties or wounded expressed in this way for the Iraq War.
If US civilians were not so focused on coalition casualties, would the Iraq war be over by now? Are civilian who think they helping, actually slowing troop movements by adding too much body and vehical armor? Not to mention devastateing US dignity and honour? They do want us there. I was there 16 months and have met countless people that wanted us there. There was even an outspoken Iraqi war critic against the occupation, but quickly picked up the phone and asked for protection when his neighborhood was being attacked.
Percentage of casualties which were fatalities in World War 1 vs. Iraq War? I'm trying to calculate, factoring in the difference in population between the U.S. today and Ireland then and the much lower rate of wounded to killed soldiers between WW1 and today, approximately how many Iraq Wars would equal the number of casualties suffered by the Irish divisions of the British Army in World War 1. Right now, I've factored in the population difference (apx. 4.4 million in Ireland in WW1 and apx. 306,070,000 in the U.S. today) and found that, comparing the totals of killed, wounded and missing soldiers from Irish divisions in WW1 and the U.S. Army today, the Irish losses were equivalent to 139 Iraq Wars. Seeing as modern technology better protects our soldiers today, however, the percentage of soldiers killed, wounded, or missing who were killed in WW1 was undoubtedly much higher than the same percentage today. So, I need to get an estimate of what percent of casualties in WW1 (killed, wounded, missing) were killed (I already have the numbers I need to calculate this for the Iraq War). Thanks.
Anti-war liberals, U.S. Casualties in Iraq Fall, Lowest Since July, '06; Iraqi Civilian Deaths Down 50 %? Here's the link: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,298730,00.html Anti-war liberals, how did this happen? Is the surge working? Are we winning the war in Iraq? What's the bad news? Chris, The story is from the AP. Does the Associated Press lie to us? I thought anti-war liberals would DENY it, because it's good news, and it points out HOW WRONG YOU ARE.
Why are we so focused on the Iraq war and not focused on the tobacco companies? I just don't understand! I'm looking at statistics and every year there are over 400,000 US deaths directly related to smoking. The Iraq War has drawn a little over 3700 US casualties. I feel the war is stupid and that we are under a misconception there, but why are the tobacco companies not stopped? It does not seem fair. I'm very novice when it comes to the tobacco and war debate, however just by looking at the numbers, this is what I get out of it. By all means this is not anything against the soldiers fighting for our Country. I wanted this to be more of a debate between the Deaths these two things have caused. I got my numbers from http://icasualties.org/oif/ and http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/data_statistics/Factsheets/cig_smoking_mort.htm
How many more U.S. casualties will it take before the Iraq war becomes wrong? We're already at 2500+ and counting. 60-70% of Americans are saying, "This war is morally wrong, we should all be opposed to it, and people who are not opposed to it are wrong." How do we change the minds of the other 30-40%? Sasssikatz04----I do understand the reason and need behind this "mild" war. But I also understand that this war can no longer be called "mild" by any thinking people. As for the reasons, we may have removed Saddam from power, but the WMD's aren't where our intelligence agencies said they would be, and we have been greeted by the Iraqi people as invaders, not liberators.
Would Americans still be anti-war if Iraqi casualties remained the same, but US casualties were negligible? There's a lot of discontentment among Americans about the Iraq war, however much of this seems to stem from the fact that there have been around 4000 US personnel dead rather than the over 500,000 (conservative estimate) Iraqi civilians who have been killed or the over 2,000,000 Iraqis who have been displaced from their homes. Now assume that the Iraqi casualty figures remained exactly the same, but US casualty rates were negligible (say, in the 10's rather than the 1000's), would the Iraq war then be as unpopular with Americans as it is now?
Truth Was First US Casualty Of Iraq War? WASHINGTON (AFP) - US President George W. Bush and his top officials ran roughshod over the truth in the run-up to the Iraq war lying a total of 935 times, a study released Wednesday found. Is it OK to lie America into a war that costs thousands of lives and billions of dollars? To the mental pygmy who said the study was funded by liberals - it was based on a database of public statements, government reports and speeches - things that are easily checked. So go ahead, refute all 935. We'll leave the light on for you.
Do you agree there is a lot of Vietnam in the Iraq war? The Iraq War will end up just like the Vietnam War. Although many people refuse to accept that it will be another Vietnam (by stating that American casualties is not as heavy as in the Vietnam War), but all the other ingredients that will make it another Vietnam are there. Primarily, the majority of the American people does not support the war. President Bush's approval rating is at its lowest, 28% (mainly because the majority disagree of the way he managed the war). Many Republicans distanced themselves away from Bush's policies. Militarily, there are no set goals or objectives to achieve. Simply put, the words "surge" or "stay the course" would not achieve anything because there isn't any clearly defined set of objectives to pursue. Even the claims of "winning" or "losing" the war became already so obscured, because there are no metrics or yardstick to correlate them to. It appears that the American troops are only baby-sitting an Iraqi civil war, something that they really cannot do anything about (for they cannot take sides to favor either the Sunnis or the Shias). Since the war's beginning, all the top military commanders already made it clear that military action alone wouldn't win the war. The overall strategy should also include political solutions, economic solutions, socio-religious solutions, and diplomatic dialogues with Iraq's neighbors. Now, it's already the 4th year of the war and only the military solution has been pursued all along (and the U.S. is not even winning convincingly in this aspect alone). All the other solutions were completely ignored. So yes, the Iraq War have a lot of parallels with the Vietnam War. It's only a matter of time before the policy-makers in Washington realizes this. Why do people say the casualties in Iraq are so bad? Why do people say that the American casualties in Iraq are so horrible when in ww1 we lost over a million soldiers in one battle, let alone the entire war. I think we all wish that death wasn't happening anywhere. But as far a wars go, Iraq is very low on soldier causualties. So why is so much attention payed to it ad such a big deal made out of it? And don't even question my support of our armed forces, I would perfer they not have to fight and die.
How much has the Iraq war cost us? Does this look about right? This is from Pnews: *Thanks to Ben for this.* The War in Iraq Costs $449,255,408, 317 As of 1:15 PM Thursday, 9-6 The human casualties are not mentioned here. Is it worth the cost? Keep the money where the money belongs is exactly right. This is just Iraq figures not counting the Afghanistan costs. And Francis, that doesn't include the retirement, disability, and VA costs to tend to our soldiers coming back, nor to help the Iraq folks that have lost homes, and limbs. This figure is racking up!!!! A small 100,000 VA loan to help me start a farm would be nice, but where is the money! And what do I want to grow? Food for local produce markets and help feed needy folks, so where do I get the money? I saw on TV where they printing money like it is newspapers. Is that place where I go get my loan? A loan means I have to pay back, so what I see I am paying back my loan and still paying taxes to pay back money that was spent. Now another reality. I busted my backside all these years and paid into my Social Security. The retirement age is what? 75 now. Me draw all I paid in by monthly check at 75? Don't see it. Maybe I might demand all my retirement money now. I am 50, I retired in 95 so I really could use "My Money", that would buy me a farm. They may delete this question.
Why doesn't the media report on sucesses in Iraq war and focus only on setbacks and death? The media tends to focus only on the bad aspects of the war in Iraq (death count obsession, a few Iraqi troops that don't do their job, etc). Obviously the war hasn't gone as originally planned and there have been a lot of casualties but the media is suposed to report on both good and bad and there has been good that is not being reported on (the success in Basra, numerous humanitarian efforts by US troops, development of infrastructure by government contractors etc).
Can anyone who supports Bush and the conservatives deny that the Iraq war is a complete fiasco? I know we can't just leave it the way it is now, but from the start, the expectations, the justifications, the planning, the ungodly cost, the fact that there is no end for us in sight at all and the country is on the brink of absolute collapse and civil war, the number of civilian casualties, can anyone argue that the war an absolute horrible mess and that if we knew five years ago what we know now, we would have left Saddam right where he was?
Is the war in Iraq on the road to win in the next three years and why? After five years in Iraq, the U.S. military has suffered over 33,000 casualties, more than 29,000 wounded and 4,079 dead, and it remains engulfed by three converging currents that constitute the Iraq War – the underlying military conflict, the battle for political control, and grinding civil strife.
Why has the Iraq war been so sanitized in the American media? Where is the outrage? Never once have we seen images of our toops coming home in body bags, or coming home wounded. What did the Bush insist on a blackout of all these images in the media? During Vietnam, people saw the body bags being loaded off the plane. It created protest and opposition to this war. We only hear about the troop casualties. They are only a number in the media's eyes. It is quite sickening. http://www.vaiw.org/vet/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=574
How much has the war in iraq cost your state in tax money? The American Friends Service Committee reports that Montana taxpayers, by the end of 2007, will have spent nearly $700 million to pay for the war in Iraq. Worse yet, 21 young Montanans have died in the war. Other Montanans have been physically maimed and mentally damaged in the war, a total of 211 casualties from Montana, so far. Just think what we could have done for Montana with $700 million, if only we had spent our tax money here instead of supporting the privatization of a war for profit. We could have built 85 new elementary schools, for example. We could have built 6,687 new affordable housing units for Montanans providing homes for Montana families. Or, we could have provided 148,203 university scholarships for Montana students!
Can someone please create a MySpace counter for Iraq War casualties? I have counters on my MySpace Page for various things like the amount of money spent on the Iraq War and a countdown until Bush's last day in office but I really want one displaying an accurate tally of the U.S. Military casualties in Iraq. I found a javascript code for a similar counter at http://www.antiwar.com/casualties/counte... , but javascript isn't allowed on MySpace. If someone could write the code for a MySpace counter I would greatly appreciate it, and I think so would a lot of other people. The site iCasualties, http://icasualties.org/oif/, might help. They have an accurate count of Iraq War casualties updated daily and verified with the DOD. Thanks. Before anyone judges me. I served in Iraq and was there for the first wave in. So don't tell me I don't know what it's like to serve. If you are that guy that left me a comment. Send me an email at mrbradg@gmail.com and I would like to send you a few words.
Why are people who are against the war so clueless on the facts? The Iraq War was and is valid. Weapons have been found, terroists ties proven, and Saddams evilness apparent, so why are those against the war not know any of this? As for the casualties in Iraq only 70% have any relation to combat or IEDs and the rest have to do with car wrecks, dicease, and medical problems, not to mention this is the least percentage of U.S. casualties of any war. This War is critical to the War on Terror, so why are people against the War so clueless?
