How is the peace corps and how can I help? I am very much interested in joining the peace corps, but a little afraid. I've researched the peace corps site and read the responses on yahoo, but I haven't an ideal of how it really is. I really want to travel and help people and just experience living in a different culture, but I would like to know the conditions in which we'll live and work. I know it won't be luxiorous, to the standards that Americans are used to, but how are they? I've studied abroad in Mexico for 3 months and I'm not afraid experiencing new things. Also, I'm a travel and tourism major and a minor in Spanish and journalism. How can I help the peace corps?

Considering Volunteering with the Peace Corps or a Similar Organization - Where should I go? I am considering joining the Peace Corps (or a similar private organization) for anywhere between a month to four months after I graduate in June. I'd prefer to go to an African nation or a former Soviet territory. Any recommendations as to which country I should request? I'd like to work with kids, possibly receive a small amount of medical training to become a nurse (or something similar). Also, do you think I should go with the Peace Corps, or a private organization? Thank you! I'm currently 17, turning 18 in October.

does the peace corps always split up married couples? My wife and I were recently invited into peace corps service. They said we have different staging dates, and different departure dates. They also said we will live with differenr host families during the 3 month in country training. We will be separated right from the beginning although, we have been told that married couples go together. Nothing that we are being told now indicates that we are ever together. so, does the peace corps always split up married couples?
Will joining the peace corps make it harder to get a job with the FBI? I know the CIA and NSA and other security agencies want to avoid association with the peace corps and tend to avoid hiring former volunteers, but is the same true of the FBI? So, will the peace corps hurt my chances? I'm planning on either going to law school or getting some other appropriate advanced degree.
Are there any good alternatives to the Peace Corps? Would love to find something similar to the Peace Corps but with a shorter commitment. Also, I've heard that volunteers lose any chance of future federal clearance, which could hurt the chances of entering a career that the Peace Corps could prepare you for. Any suggestions? Preferably something overseas... As for the military, I wouldn't want to sell my soul to the oilman-in-chief that's currently in command.

Chances of getting into the Peace Corps? Ok, so I am very interested in joining the Peace Corps next year...I am graduating from a liberal arts college this May and would like to do something productive and engaging after graduation. I go to a very academically rigorous institution, and my GPA has been very average. In addition, unfortunately, I have not been that involved in many school groups or functions. I am wondering if there is a chance that the Peace Corps would accept me or should I just forget about it. I would love to work in the public health field in the Peace Corps...any hope?

When joining the Peace Corps, how do you know where you will go? Although you can look up the possible countries to be sent to on the peace corps web site, I cannot find whether or not you get to chose what country you go to. I've heard that you get to chose the region but not the specific country. The official website makes it seem like you have no input, and you get placed purely upon your skills. What's true?
How likely is it to receive a Peace Corps nomination? Hi, I'm applying for the Peace Corps and it's something I've wanted to do since HS, and all through college. I've completed the application and even received my interview (which I think went alright). All of my materials are in and my recruiter tells me I'm simply waiting for a nomination (she said within a few days). So it's been a week, I followed up with an email thanking her for the interview. I'm just wondering what are the chances of receiving a nomination? And what's next after this point? Keep waiting? What's the average wait period to receive a nomination, IF I get one, and is it over if I don't receive one? Thanks for your answer if you have one.
