American Empire?

I have hearing more and more lately about the "American Empire". I am sick and tired of these accusations. These people are the same ones that compare America to Rome and any other empire throughout history. America is not an Empire. Yes there are similarities between America and Rome, but we are not like them. America will not fall to the same fate as Rome. The weaknesses of Rome are what made it fall, America will not fall the same way Rome did. I am a firm believer in biblical prophecy. Though I dont believe that America is the new Israel, I do believe we are nearing the end of days. America will not end enless the world ends. The only other possibility of America falling is through civil war. And the way our country is designed, a civil war like in 1861 could not happen, instead it would be a civil war of the People Against the Government. So here's my question, Do you think that the U.S. is an Empire, Why or Why Not Sorry for the bad grammer in the first sentence, missed it.

1. "America will not fall to the same fate as Rome." Romans believed this too. I am not saying that America will fall, but I want to raise the question, "have we learned anything from the history"?
2. Well, I guess it depends on what definition of 'Empire' you choose to use. Q: Are we a political unit having an extensive territory or comprising a number of territories or nations and ruled by a single supreme authority? A: No, therefore we are not an Empire. Q: Are we an extensive enterprise under a unified authority? A: Yes, therefore we are an Empire. As far as the unasked question, "Will we, The United States of America, fall like the Romans did?" Only time will tell, however we should look at some of the behaviors of that nation just before the fall. Violence was celebrated, personal pleasure was the greatest good, and the military was stretched too thin for it to defend the nation. If we don't change our ways, we could well go down the same path, it is up to us to decide if we will sit by and watch our nation flounder or if we will get involved and improve our national profile.
